On finding the question paper, I immediately start writing. Is it OK?
No it's not OK. It is good only for people who are masters of the subject. For a normal student it is advised that he/she should first read the whole question paper then create a rough plan and only when he/she can see the other end of the pipe, he/she should start attempting.
This does not mean that U should spend all your time in planning. The Best approach is to take a glance at the contents of the question paper, and then plan everything in hardly 5-10 minutes.
